The show title “Paintings” may be an understatement in the case of James Farrington. Farrington’s art is sticky and gooey, with a cherry on top. His work seems to grow before your eyes, oozing off the canvas, dripping, globbing, and consuming anything and everything in its path. Visiting the artist’s studio you may experience the uneasy feeling that if you stand still too long you will find yourself encased in paint. This is wonderfully obsessive, no-holds-barred painting. For Farrington, whatever’s in reach counts as inspiration and fair game. Whether fervently jotting numbers and equations or gluing together studio trash, this is passionate work with an underlying wry wit and idiosyncratic language all its own.
