Even mountains deserved to be loved. I don’t mean literally of course, but metaphorically the mountain represents a force to be reckoned with, and hopefully, if not scaled, then appreciated. Jacci Den Hartog, in her newest exhibition at Rosamund Felsen Gallery has privileged the mountain in all its multiple facets and complexity. Inspired by Aldo Leopold’s A Sand County Almanac (1949), Hartog’s extraordinary and often humorous colorful sculptures represent the “idea” of a mountain with all its itinerant meanings and metaphors. Often the mountain represents a journey toward self and each of these sculptures could be said to stand for a singular and profound moment along the way.
