In their recent collaborative exhibition, Martin Durazo and Kottie Paloma have created a dialogue that is both socially conscious and willfully playful. Durazo’s raw canvas works incorporate an odd array of materials including acrylic paint, found macramé, spray paint, and crochet as well as small pieces of agate that read like particles of “spiritual stardust” fallen to earth, where Kottie Paloma’s large abstractions accessorize fragments of speech like lost song lyrics that float in a chaotic and otherwise indeterminate space. It’s a nice combination of Zen aesthetics meets the end of the world.
