Robert Olson

by | Nov 13, 2014

Robert Olson was a colleague and fellow art world traveler. From the beginning his work was marked with a deep sense of isolation, and it this deeply private motivation that suffuses his retrospective at the Luckman Art Center. Spanning a twenty-year period, the show charts a course of both light and integrity, as each of these singular images stands as testament to the evolution of a uniquely sparse and enigmatic sensibility. These paintings are often quiet and sometimes fused with an almost palpable grief, though they are not populated with figures only with shapes, light and space. It was a pleasure to have known Robert Olson in life and it is the same honor in death.
