Max Presneill once told me that all rock stars secretly want to be painters and all painters would really rather “get the led out,” and judging from The Torrance Art Museum’s current exhibit, “Reverb,” I think I’d have to agree. Bringing together an amalgam of artists ranging from Martin Kippenberger to Steve Roden to Martin Durazo, this exhibition highlights the “impulse” to derive sound from visual language and vice versa. Highlights of the show are Steve Roden’s elegantly crafted collage works including one of Mary Hopkin, the folksy musical queen of the endless reminiscence. After all, “Those were the days. . .”~Eve Wood
