Jeffrey Deitch reimagines his 1992 exhibition, “Post Human,” with a dialogue between the 90s works and newer ones, presenting dueling visions for the future of humanity and the self. The show is an opportunity to see Paul McCarthy’s The Garden (1991-1992) and Charles Ray’s Family Romance (1993) placed among newer works such as Cajsa von Zeipel’s silicone and mixed media work, Pep Talk (2024), a cyborg frankenvehicle that features a female figure whose arms have morphed into the front fork of a motorcycle frame as she peers at her reflection in multiple mirrors as if to suggest that we will eventually become one with our devices. Josh Kline’s videos Forever 48 (Whitney) / Citi Display Wall 46″ (2013) and Forever 27 (Kurt) / Citi Display Wall 46″ (2013) use old-school deepfake technology to present an alternate reality in which the celebrities never died. Try not to feel overwhelmed by the multitude of works. It may seem messy, but there is a method to the madness. Take a map and dive in.
