Remember Wood Shop? Well, Matt Rosenquist certainly does. And he has created an incredibly appealing, often humorous group of sculptures at the Glike Gallery in Culver City. With titles like Suburban Punk Rock Girl (2014), these works are rough around the edges for sure but that is part of their seductiveness. The bases are splintered and rudimentary as are the faces of the figures, yet it is this very scruffiness that makes these sculptures so winsome and true. It’s so good to see an artist who is not afraid to show the seams, the potholes or the inherent weirdness of life, but in fact revels in it!
