Ryan Trecartin and Lizzie Fitch seem to have channeled the Bauhaus’ Oskar Schlemmer—not an easy task, but one certainly worth considering. Working in the vein of sculptural theater, Fitch and Trecartin have created a strangely alluring alternate universe using “a hybrid tent structure intersected with a steel platform melding recreational and factory aesthetics familiar from camping equipment, concert stages, industrial fittings and security cages,” and all for the sole purpose of transporting the viewer past the known world and beyond their preconceived expectations of what art is or can be. There is plenty here for everyone, and as with the great mastermind of “sculptural theater” Oskar Schlemmer, Trecartin and Fitch know how to put on one hell of a show.
