Moon River (2014)

Julia Dault’s recent exhibition “Rhythm Nation,” at China Art Objects feels like a trip down memory lane, or more specifically, a journey back through 1980’s color field abstraction where artists like Jack Whitten and David Reed were pushing the boundaries of both color and space. Works like the oddly enigmatic “Moon River” (2014) combine the elements of color and form with nuanced wit and a more precise and delicate sensibility, as though Paul Klee suddenly found himself transported to the dance floor at Studio 54 in the early 80s! What a picture that would be!
