In “Useless Man,” artists reposition the “male” body outside of strength and authority. Men can be submissive and ultimately transformed. These artists differ in their takes on masculinity, ranging from the absurd, surreal, humorous, and violent. Artists of varying identities can take power over the male body instead of allowing it to overpower themselves. The artists can define men or render them useless. Men are material to be used by artists of all gender identities.
Participating artists include: Rakeem Cunningham, Gabriel Garcia, Maiza Hixson, Shaun Johnson, Emily Blythe Jones, Thinh Nguyen, Paul Pescador, Jason Ramos, Charles Snowden, Christopher Velasco, and Eve Wood.
On view through September 22 at Highways Performance Space.
