UNDER CONSTRUCTION
Our environments are ever-evolving. As time passes, so changes our sense of stability, understanding, and connectivity to the world around us. In an effort to adapt we reconstruct our narratives, using our memories and experiences to inform our outlook for the future.
UNDER CONSTRUCTION is a group exhibition of abstract artists who allow their memories and visual experiences to inform their work. Though these inspirations are personal to the artist, the results evoke visual cues to shared experiences that connect us all. As time passes, our memories fade and evolve to align with our own perceptions that can be colored by emotion and misunderstanding. Drawing on imagery from their varied pasts, these artists layer fragments of color and texture to construct vignettes that reflect their own stories. Our human impulse to constantly reflect on the past results in personal histories that are forever changing and always under construction.

CURATOR BIOGRAPHY
Kim Marra is a native New Yorker. After graduating from SUNY New Paltz with a BFA in Painting, Kim spent three years living the New York City grind before permanently relocating to Los Angeles. She has exhibited in many venues throughout New York and California, and has been featured in several publications including Paint Pulse Magazine and Petrichor Review. Kim’s bold, geometric oil paintings “collage” elements from her present surroundings and childhood homes, finding visual overlap in the memories and feelings these places recall for her. Kim is a working artist, curator, and textile designer happily calling Los Angeles her home.
