Resisting trans-spectacle, Two Girls One Tweezer explores queer cohabitation and femme ritual. The show highlights the sapphic reality of Kari and Lucy’s seven year relationship. Both artists of recognition, this is their first public collaboration and exhibition.
Two Girls One Tweezer is an immersion into their West Hollywood abode that reimagines queer domesticity not as representation, but as nuanced terrain: chaotic, meticulous, loving and medicalized. This household is not viewed through clean narrative arcs, but rather by identifying artistic perspectives in the mundane.
A six-foot-high pair of steel and aluminum tweezers transforms an intimate tool into a monumental sculptural object. Expect Evian’s electrolysed facial hairs and discarded hormone injectors to reappear in her work. Additionally, visitors are invited to enter their bathroom which operates as a shrine to the creative impulse.
The exhibition’s opening night performance will feature Kari and Lucy physically connected via their acrylic nail extensions — until members of the community separate them. Thereafter, Lucy will then launch into a DJ set, collapsing queer nightlife and the formal gallery space into one continuous performance.
