LOS ANGELES, CA Wonzimer Gallery is proud to announce Together, Us, a solo exhibition by Marta Thoma Hall. Through an evocative collection of sculpture and mixed media, Marta Thoma Hall investigates the porous boundaries between the self, the collective, and the natural world.
The exhibition poses a central existential question regarding where one human ends and another begins. Marta Thoma Hall draws deeply from the lineage of Surrealism, echoing the intuitive and experimental approaches of historical figures like Leonora Carrington and Louise Bourgeois. The work transcends traditional concepts of representation by blending the industrial with the organic. Materials such as weathered wood, steel, resin, fur, and tapestry converge to create objects that feel both primal and futuristic.
This body of work explores the prelingual shared memory of humanity. This concept, rooted in the philosophies of Julia Kristeva and Carl Jung, suggests that our deepest connections exist in a realm of sensation and empathy that predates language. By questioning the status quo of space and time, the collection by Marta Thoma Hall invites viewers to recognize their profound connection to one another.
In a cultural moment often defined by separation, Together, Us argues that empathy is a vital survival mechanism. The exhibition is a visual synthesis of the maternal bond and the collective unconscious, serving as a call to unite as humans who care for each other and for the earth.
