Threshold features the work of 3 local artists Blake Baxter, Frederick Fulmer and Mike McLain in Joshua Tree, Ca.
Blake Baxter is best known for large-scale, monochromatic paintings
incorporating aggregates such as sand, coal slag, and diatomaceous earth.
Frederick Fulmer new paintings involves the use of color & texture in abstract forms. These larger scale paintings reference to the landscapes with abstract elements inspired by the Mojave Desert.
Mike McLain’s uses commercially produced fabric and acrylic paints to create works that combine found patterns with imposed marks the pursuit of total abstraction. The final image results not from the design choices made by the artists ,but by the systematic positioning of color . The work often pushes visual cues to create an optical buzz.
Opening reception for the artist held on February 12th, 6-8pm at JTAG.
