Art San Diego 2022 Art Fair by Redwood Art Group presents a collection of signature works by an award-winning American fine art photographer Alex Sher from September 9-11, 2022 at the San Diego Convention Center (Booth #509).
This stunning selection of works combines photographs from Sher’s latest artistic innovation ‘REFLECTIONS’, which weaves together the figurative and the abstract, along with remarkable figurative art pieces from his past series. Together, there will be seven works by Sher printed on aluminum and approximately 100 prints on paper.
“Sher’s advancement of his own style while actively progressing the medium proves his mastery of the techniques and the embodiment of a one-of-a-kind artistic vision. The result, striking images that display the human form in beautifully unexpected ways,” – Art Market Magazine, July 2022.
The presentation of works from Sher’s ‘REFLECTIONS’ series will be an essential part of the Art Fair. Attracting viewers with aesthetic, eye-catching, and charming combinations of figurative and abstract art appeals to the tastes of admirers of both art movements.
‘REFLECTIONS’ are underwater photographs that could almost be mistaken for abstract paintings, bringing forth recollections of masterpieces by Picasso, Dali, or Gustav Klimt. In reality, ‘REFLECTIONS’ are straight photographic captures of the water’s surface from below with a submerged underwater camera. The photographs freeze natural momentary reflections on the water’s surface – unique kaleidoscopic fragmentations of a human body in nearly unrecognizable forms.
Alongside ‘REFLECTIONS,’ some of the most well-known and recognizable pieces of Sher’s work from previous collections will be presented. Descending into the water’s depth, ‘Steps’ has stunned audiences and been in high demand among collectors and art lovers. The captivating “Porcelain II” was recently selected by Lens Culture, a global photography network and online magazine, as a “finalist” for the first annual Summer Open Awards 2022 with a future exhibition in London.
Alex Sher is internationally recognized for his distinctive depictions of the aqueous depths and admiration of feminine sensuality.
Sher’s artistic practice has evolved from marine wildlife photographer, to figurative fine art, to monochrome black and white works, and into his latest series that challenges the boundaries between the figurative and the abstract within the photography medium.
To date, Sher’s work has been exhibited in London, New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and other major cities and institutions including the Louvre Museum in Paris. His first solo show was held in 2016 at Los Angeles’s Bruce Lurie Gallery. Since his debut, he has had six solo shows, has been included in numerous group exhibitions, and has participated in prominent art fairs. In 2018, his first photo book “Mermaids” was published.
