Opening Reception Sat July 13th 2019 7-11pm
Performance from Jeff and the Jerks 9pm

“The Glorious Hole” ,is  a collaboration between Silky Shoemaker and Samara Halperin The project is a gay-clown homage to XXX bookstores. It is a Queer space for celebrating the disappearing culture of backrooms, x-rated bookstores, and porn theaters- a hot and bothered re-envisioning of pre-internet cruising grounds.

Samara Halperin’s “Blue Movies” provide an opportunity for Queer filth and sensuality in the sanitized/idealized/bodiless world of online cruising. They are inspired by 1970’s hustler films, hot dogs, ashtrays, and early Kenneth Anger.

Silky Shoemaker’s paintings explore queer backrooms and the weird, beautiful, alien feelings of gay bodies gathering.

BIOS:

Silky Shoemaker is a performer, visual artist, and community organizer based in Oakland CA. She is one third of the performance collective Shaboom! and also dances across the world with notorious post gender punk Christeene. Silky is the founder of GAYBIGAYGAY Music Fest and once curated the world’s first Gay Wax Museum. https://epicjoys.com/home.htm

Samara Halperin’s short films and videos have been making audiences laugh, cry and scream in screenings from Australia to Saskatchewan, since 1989. Samara is from New York City and lives in Oakland, California; where they make movies, teach filmmaking at Mills College, and admire palm trees. Samara is currently working on “West of the Wonder Wheel,” the sequel to their award winning animated film, “Tumbleweed Town.” https://www.youtube.com/user/samarahalperin
