The Joey Feldman Gallery is pleased to present The Color of Memory, a solo exhibition of new paintings by Los Angeles–based artist Alexandra Rose. In this radiant body of work, Rose dives headfirst into the deep waters of nostalgia—where joy and melancholy blur, and memories sharpen into something more vivid, more electric, than reality itself. Her process is visceral: canvases are laid flat on the floor, drenched in watered-down acrylic and vinyl paint, then lifted and surrendered to gravity’s pull. Once upright, Rose applies layer upon layer of lush oil paint, working intuitively—each mark and stroke informing the next. Rose’s abstract, ambiguous compositions act as emotional landscapes: felt more than seen, experienced not as they were, but as she remembers them. The highly saturated colors become a language of feeling—luminous and dreamlike, suspended in time—echoing the way nostalgia paints our past in the vibrant tones of emotion.
