Summer of Abandon is a visual celebration of freedom and the fleeting energy of summer. In ten staged photographs, set in Sicily, artist Carla Sutera Sardo captures the female figure, immersed in sun-drenched landscapes and shimmering water.

At once introspective and exuberant, the series plays with themes of presence and escape. Set across Sicilian shores and pools, the female figure floats, dances and dissolves. Water is a backdrop and metaphor: a place of rebirth, reflection, and sensuality. Colors are saturated and the compositions evoke a cinematic intimacy that feels both personal and archetypal. Sutera Sardo’s work blurs the boundary between control and spontaneity, crafting scenes that appear effortless but are deeply intentional.
