On view from August 23 to November 27, Stories of Hiroshima: Jacob Lawrence and the Children of Hiroshima reexamines the impact of the 1945 bombing of Hiroshima through a powerful conversation between Lawrence’s Hiroshima prints and selected drawings by the children of Hiroshima’s Honkawa Elementary School, created with supplied donated by D.C.’s All Souls Unitarian Church in 1947.
The exhibition marks the first time the Hiroshima prints, created by Lawrence to illustrate the Limited Edition Club book by the same title, will be on display. Together, the two bodies of work illustrate the emotional impact of nuclear warfare and the resilience of a war-torn generation.
