Southern Korea, A Space of Lines
Beyond Time, Tradition Becomes Contemporary Art
October 28 – December 2, 2026
Opening Reception: Wednesday, October 28, 6–8 PM
The Korean Cultural Center Los Angeles (KCCLA), in collaboration with Horanggasi Creative Studio, presents Southern Korea, A Space of Lines, a special exhibition exploring the evolution of Korean art from traditional painting and calligraphy to contemporary artistic practices.
Featuring 25 works by modern masters and contemporary artists from Korea’s Honam region, including Heo Baek-ryeon, Oh Ji-ho, and Cho Bang-won, the exhibition traces how the aesthetics of line, ink, negative space, and restraint have been preserved, reinterpreted, and transformed across generations.
The exhibition’s central concept, the “line,” serves as both a visual element and a connection between past and present. Through painting, installation, video, and media art, traditional artistic sensibilities take on new forms, revealing how brushstrokes and ink can evolve into expressions of light, imagery, space, and digital technology.
Curated by Heonki Jeong, Southern Korea, A Space of Lines invites visitors to discover how Korea’s artistic heritage continues to inspire contemporary creativity.
