GODS, GHOSTS, DEMONS, AND EVERYTHING IN BETWEEN: YOU ARE SUMMONED!
This Halloween, a poco art opens small gods, an exhibition of strange apparitions, unruly desires, mischievous divinities, and creatures that refuse to stay in one form.
What makes a god? What makes a monster? And how much can we trust what we see?
The Diamond Sutra whispers: 凡所有相，皆是虛妄 — All forms are illusory.
Drawing on Buddhist philosophy, Shinto animism, diasporic mythologies, queer fantasy, and the ancient reminder of memento mori—remember that you must die—small gods invites us into a world where the boundaries between the sacred and profane, human and nonhuman, living and dead become wonderfully unstable.
Bodies become landscapes. Objects acquire souls. Food becomes flesh; flesh becomes something stranger. Saints flirt with demons, the monstrous becomes tender, and gods turn up in the most unlikely places.
In this world, divinity is neither distant nor monumental. Spirits inhabit nature, ordinary objects, bodies, and the air around us. Even the familiar idea of Asia begins to shift, crossing geographical, cultural, and spiritual boundaries to emerge in unexpected forms.
Join us on Halloween to encounter ten artists and their unruly pantheon of small gods.
