Some artists set to paint after carefully having created, through sketches and studies, what they want to do, this is not the case of Nora Cabiale.
Cabiale uses the opposite way to arrive at her goal. She lets the work itself come alive and guide her to completion. She uses pouring, a dynamic and alive way of mixing and scattering paint on a blank canvas, to flow freely and take form little by little. Once the pouring covers the entire canvas, she observes each brake or turn the pouring has taken till finally discovering an image, which then she paints. She does not create; she discovers, and in doing so she arrives at creation.
In this solo show Cabiale plunges in found animal forms, which she associates with qualities such as kindness, bravery, empathy, persistence, and so on and so forth.
Throughout prehistory and history animals have been used to portray human qualities and even to define our destiny. Mythology is full of fables and stories such as the Minotaur, the Centaur, and Pegasus, the winged horse, among others. Nora Cabiale takes us back, in a whimsical and playful way, to those times, so that we can see ourselves in the eyes of a cat or the swim of an orca or the face of a giraffe.
To enter her show is to step into Anthropology and also into the very own nature of things, where we all dwell, but also it helps us to understand that we, after all, are the same product of the fountain of Life.
