
Director: Lula Buarque de Hollanda, 2000; 82 mins French-born Pierre Verger lived in Salvador, Bahia from 1946 until his death in 1996. This documentary focuses on his involvement with the city’s Candomblé community as well as his frequent travels to explore deep cultural, social, and religious connections between Africa and Brazil. Narrated by Gilberto Gil, the film includes Verger’s last interview, given the day before his death at age 93.
