SCOTT WIXON: RABBIT AND OTHER TAILS
EXHIBITION DATES: MARCH 26 – APRIL 20, 2024
RECEPTION: THURSDAY, MARCH 28, 5PM – 8PM

The Painting Center is pleased to present the solo exhibition of Scott Wixon titled Rabbit and Other Tails. Wixon’s fascination with color, quirky shapes and gestures define his personal vocabulary. His style gives pride of place to movement and undulations. As he puts it: “When I start a new painting, I have a preliminary idea. My structure develops as I go along, reacting to what has come before. I feel confident that I can totally trust my intuition and make the right decisions.” There is a playfulness in these works that delights the eye and ignites the imagination.

This exhibition highlights selections of oil paintings made in his New York studio and at his home on Cape Cod. The works on paper were made at L’Expressoir artist residency in Marnay Sur Seine, France in October 2023.

Scott Wixon received a BFA from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design and an MFA from Yale University. Scott has had artist residences at the Emily Harvey Foundation, Venice, Italy, Foundation Obras, Estremoz, Portugal twice and Cill Rialaig Project, Ballinskelligs, Ireland. Beside the latest one at L’Expressoir in Marnay Sur Seine, France. Scott’s work has been exhibited at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and the Solomon R Guggenheim Museum, New York, Woodstock Artist Association & Museum, Woodstock, NY and the Evanston Art Center, Evanston, IL and in many galleries. He has artworks in the Guggenheim Museum permanent collection, as well as in private and corporate collections. He has worked and lived in Tribeca since 1975. He grew up on Cape Cod and returns there often. He has a love of nature and the sea, but also enjoys the energy of the city. He has traveled extensively and sampled the art and culture of the world. All of these influences and passions have informed and affected his work.
