The Art Students League will host a free afternoon program on Tuesday, June 20 from 12-1pm. The event will focus on artist and League instructor Robert Henri and will take place in the school’s Phyllis Harriman Mason Gallery, located at 215 W 57 Street, 2nd Floor.
First, Peter Osborne, director of the Robert Henri Museum and Art Gallery, will join from Henri’s childhood home in Cozad, Nebraska to speak about the larger-than-life artist who taught at the Art Students League in the early 1900s, forming the Ashcan School movement of New York painters.
Later on in the talk, attendees will be invited to share their favorite passages from Henri’s The Art Spirit.
After, join League instructor John Varriano at McSorley’s Ale House in the East Village. Beginning at 1:30pm, you are invited to draw in the same bar where Robert Henri and his friend John Sloan famously sketched.
Registration is suggested.
