Life as we know it is hard and it’s getting harder. Society is desperately trying to find icons to help us to navigate the pressures and the alienating undertone of our age.
We seem to be unable to dig deep within ourselves to find the strength to carry on unabated. We need reassurances, which oddly enough we seem to seek in the titans of our times, the Superheroes. These mythical figures possess a sense of justice and a bravery and strength that match or even beat that of the old Greek Gods and Titans. These Superheroes don’t leave your mortal yearnings or problems, on the contrary they are foreign to them. And it is here where Rise Up makes her own the famous Mark Twain’s phrase: When you realize that we are all mad, the world makes sense.
Rise Up dives into the problems of our pessimistic view of the everyday individual and the need of something bigger to see us through. She dissects icons of our time and presents them to us as common folks with their comings and goings, their doubts, their weaknesses, and their shortcomings. To see her work is to understand that nothing is foreign to us and that which ails us can be found even in the projections of our modern Titans and archetypes, the Superhero.
To understand Rise Up’s work is to comprehend the irony that surrounds our daily life.
