Ride the Wild Wheels
Exhibition Opening and Artist Reception, September 29, 6-10PM
Pacific Coast Gallery will be exhibiting the work of famed SST producer and photographer SPOT, in a new exhibition called Ride the Wild Wheels. SPOT is well known for producing many of the early releases from Black Flag, the Minutemen, Descendents, Meat Puppets and Husker Du (among many other bands from that era) and he was also a prolific photographer and sharp-eyed chronicler of life in LA and Hermosa during the 70s and early 80s. Many of his images were featured in his acclaimed photo book Sounds of Two Eyes Opening, released in 2014.
We will be featuring beach, roller skate, skateboard, surf and punk rock photos from Hermosa Beach and the South Bay. This will be the first time SPOT has ever offered these images as fine art prints, and they will be printed by the same master printer, and to the same standards, as the other fine art landscape photos at Pacific Coast Gallery. We will also be releasing some of SPOT’s never before seen images of Black Flag from their Nervous Breakdown recording session, as this record nears its 40th anniversary. The artist reception for Ride the Wild Wheels begins at 6pm on Saturday September 29th, and it will feature live music by SPOT, as well as a live performance by Mike Watt and the Missingmen (SPOT produced many of Mike Watt’s Minutemen records).
