PAM DOUGLAS AND RAYA YARBROUGH This mother-daughter collaboration transforms what those in power label ‘IMPROPER IDEOLOGY’; into a defiant celebration of truth-telling through art.

IMPROPER IDEOLOGY merges painting, sculpture, poetry, and music into immersive experiences that challenge visitors to inhabit both physical and emotional landscapes. Douglas’s mixed-media works don’t merely illustrate Yarbrough’s poems—they embody them. Text flows across weathered surfaces, intertwines with found objects, and cascades from hanging installations, creating environments where words become tactile and images sing.

Yarbrough’s accompanying poetry speaks to displacement, memory, and the search for authentic connection in an increasingly fractured world. Her words weave through themes of cultural erasure, environmental destruction, and the persistence of hope despite overwhelming odds.

BARBARA TEVAROTTO “I wonder if she embraces the silence of the forest, transfixed by morning dew as light flickers through. I wonder if she dreams of running across the prairie fields, arms spread out as if they were wings, finally resting against a tree, whispering `I’m free` She cries, I cry, I try to reconcile. Guided by instinct and emotion, my creative process is rooted in the belief that storytelling has the power to heal, reveal, and bring us closer together. When I make art or take a photo, I’m trying to create a space where emotion can speak. Through my images, I hope to give voice to what is felt but not always spoken—to help people feel seen.”

KATHRYN PITT In her exhibition, Underwater and Other Figures, Kathryn Pitt explores her enduring interest in the human form.

The five, oil on canvas paintings, show bodies suspended in water. The artist not only captures the sense of fluidity and weightlessness you feel in this eerie, still world where sounds are muted and vision altered but also captures the colors that bounce off the skin under the light refracting through the liquid…The human form has always been present in the history of art and holds huge historical and cultural relevance by helping us learn about the societies that depict them. Here, Kathryn continues this tradition in exploring the subject matter, drawing on her own experience and intuition.

OXANA AKOPOV “My Art is a little America. Through the art, I make my research of the world around me and communicate with it.”

Oxana Akopov is a conceptual artist based in Los Angeles. Working inter-disciplinarily, she weaves personal experiences of immigrant life and cultural innuendo with symbolism, through photography, conceptual and installation art. Her background includes Communications experience in a multinational firm and an education in journalism – a journey that helps her communicate her imagination through art. Akopov was selected for the London Art Biennale, July 2025.
