The exhibit, Valises for Camp Ground: Arts, Corrections, and Fire Management in the Santa Monica Mountains, features functional suitcases created by artist Kim Abeles and the firefighting women inmates of Camp 13. These will be used by National Park Service rangers and County Fire educators to teach communities about fire prevention and our relationship to nature.
For the closing event, a reading by seven local poets will reflect on the themes of wildfire, community, wilderness, and memory. The poets include: Bridgette Bianca, Yvonne M. Estrada, Bridgette Bianca, Eric Howard, Beverly Lafontaine, Alicia Vogl-Saenz, AK Toney, and Terry Wolverton.
The event and exhibit are free and open to the public.
