Photographic Arts Council Los Angeles (PAC LA), with the support of Eastman Museum Los Angeles, is pleased to present its second Year of the Woman event “Why A Photobook?” on Saturday, May 17, 2025 at 1:00pm.
Los Angeles Modern Auctions (LAMA) will host the dynamic panel discussion featuring photographers Mona Kuhn and Elena Dorfman, Getty Library photography curator Isotta Poggi, and photography collector Marjorie Ornston. Los Angeles Modern Auctions is located at 6666 Lexington Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90038. Capacity is limited, advance registration is highly recommended; please register at: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/pac-la-why-a-photobook-panel-discussion-tickets-1337973979189.
Drawing from the Getty Library’s current pop-up exhibition of global photobooks by women, PAC LA’s, “Why A Photobook?” will highlight notable photobooks by Southern California women artists published after 2000, expanding the discussion on this popular medium and exploring many of the questions that photo artists face today. This interactive discussion will invite audience participation to further unpack the significance of photobooks and the role they play in the development of an artist’s career and legacy.
PAC LA recently launched its free public event series—Year of the Woman—with support from Eastman LA, celebrating notable women in fine art photography. PAC LA has dedicated a full year of programming to this central theme, with events spanning throughout 2025 and extending into early 2026. These offerings will highlight the contributions of women across different sectors of photography—curators, collectors, authors, artists, gallerists, and conservators—through events held both in-person at venues across Los Angeles and online.
