This exhibition gathers work by a small group of artists who have a highly tactile and sensory way with creation, imposing gesture and poetry on materials that are commonly industrial or found. It includes the work of Linda Franke, Nancy Ivanhoe, Victoria May, Jenny Rask, and Daniel Wheeler. Curated by Victoria May.
These artists palpate for substance and void, tension and slack, polished and raw, to arrive at
combinations that symbolize the contingency of the contemporary psyche. They speak through gesture made with the inert. They extract urgency from the rigid. They utilize unremarkable, overlooked materials from everyday society—domestic and industrial excess, street and river detritus—and reconfigure them anew with objectivity and wonder.
