OFF THE CLIFF: Contraptions and Publications by Tim Maxeiner
Regardless of form—whether three-dimensional constructions or two-dimensional publications—German-born, San Pedro-based artist Tim Maxeiner’s works seem to emerge from an alchemy of curiosity, keen observations, intelligence and humor. His projects are smart and timely, made with a playful inventor’s touch.
Tim Maxeiner’s kinetic sculptures and assemblages have a distinctive physicality. He uses weathered, cast-off materials gathered on his wanderings along the coastline of southern California. His works serve as an at-times-uncomfortable glimpse into the past and present, while also inspiring a sense of wonder and offering reasons to giggle.
The Off the Cliff exhibition will also feature several of the artist’s publications which are an extension of his practice. They reveal much about his thinking process, as well as his actions in and interactions with his surroundings.
This exhibition runs from September 7–October 12, 2019 at Flux Art Space in Long Beach, 410 Termino Avenue, 90814. FREE. All are welcome.
