Opening Reception for COLORS AND LIGHT: CATY MAXEY, REIHANEH AND BENSON SIMMONDS. These three artists use fused-glass, fabric, paint and mixed-media to express their inner-light and transform the challenges and obstacles they face into powerful art that inspires us.
An acclaimed production designer, who just finished working on the film Civil War, Caty Maxey, shares multi-colored, nature-inspired, abstract fused-glass panels, and lightboxes. Reihaneh Safavi trained in architecture and was involved in the Women’s movement in Iran, then moved to the US to pursue art. Her paintings explore overcoming childhood trauma by embracing positivity. Benson Simmonds creates powerful, expressive paintings that emanate from his soul, or what he calls, Soular Power. Using India ink, markers and other mixed-media and acrylic painting, on glass, tile and canvas, Simmonds presents work that reflects childlike wonder and inner joy.
We are excited to share this light-filled exhibit with you!
