FOYER-LA presents ‘GREMLIN’, a two-person exhibition featuring works by George Raggett and Nick Herman. The show will kick off with an opening event on Saturday, September 12th, from 5-8pm, featuring a live musical performance by PIT at 7pm.
George Raggett and Nick Herman share an interest in how vocabularies of propaganda and superstition overlap, especially in myths of technological progress and futurisms. Attuned to the ways these ideologies have produced a zombie economy of disenchantment and exploitation, Herman and Raggett’s work explores older prompts of folklore and the abject to reframe cliches of techno-optimism. In so doing, their work playfully reveals a deeper and more archetypal trope of demonic possession and animism – a framework that both sheds light on our collective alienation and evokes the material optimism of magical thinking.
The show will be on view at FOYER-LA through October 24th. FOYER-LA is open Thurs-Sat from 12pm-5pm.
