California State University, Northridge Art Galleries is honored to present the exhibition Nancy Youdelman: Fashioning a Feminist Vision. Nancy Youdelman is one of the early participants in the feminist art movement that began five decades ago at her alma mater, California State University, Fresno, under the tutelage of Judy Chicago. Youdelman earned her B.F.A. at CalArts in 1973 and her M.F.A. in Sculpture from U.C.L.A. in 1976, and her work expresses a concern for preserving her gender’s memories and experiences.
This exhibition illustrates the development of Youdelman’s practice during the past five decades with a variety of meticulously crafted objects. Drawn from the Fresno Museum retrospective originally curated by Michele Ellis Pracy, the artworks in this exhibition are comprised of assemblages, collages, dresses, and shoes handcrafted from a variety of traditional and alternative media. A catalogue from the Fresno Museum exhibition will be available for purchase.
:In conjunction with the exhibition, a panel discussion, titled In Conversation, will be moderated by Art Historian Betty Ann Brown, with Youdelman, and artists Ruth Weisberg and Linda Vallejo.
