Curatorial Text:
There’s a sense of discovery when approaching Ignacio de Mattos’ work. As if we were about to find something unknown about ourselves and the Universe.
His lens captures large or diminutive images with the same precision, and he achieves that because of his acute eye. He sees and finds meaning where we see nothing. A rusted nail or a bolt, a torn minuscule piece of paper, some dry palm leaves, a piece of fabric and so on and so forth. All these objects show us their commonality and their composition, as if one were to look at our own nervous system. Nothing is untied.
We become one with the image and suddenly we understand that we, human beings, flora, fauna, and things have the same origin: Life.
Ignacio de Mattos deconstructs everything and allows us to construct it back ourselves. His eye discovers the Eternal Recurrence in every day’s life. The sea throws everything back to the shore, said Nietzsche; In turn, the shore replenishes the sea, could said Ignacio de Mattos.
Through his art the circle of Life becomes whole.
