Meditations on Liminality at Mary Paxon gallery features recent paintings by Maria Bjorkdahl. Maria’s abstract paintings are influenced by ideas about liminality and objecthood, inspired by studies in cultural anthropology and interest in existential philosophy. By painstakingly unraveling the cotton duck threads of the unstretched canvas with the help of a needle and later re-sealing it with acrylic medium Maria creates biomorphic shapes which take on mysterious, poetic qualities that speak of ambiguity and liminality.

The exhibition will be on view from December 4 through December 22, with an opening reception on Saturday, December 8 from 6-8pm.
