The artists behind Manzanita honed their artistic skills and practices at the University of California, Santa Barbara’s College of Creative Studies. Inspired by Santa Barbara’s local manzanita species and its biological growth from germination often caused by wildfires, these emerging artists prepare to enter a new era of rebirth and artistic growth as their senior year as undergraduates comes to a close. With a diverse presentation of painting, sculpture, printmaking, and photography, these artworks not only portray portraits of singular subjects, but also serve as a mirror of these students as artists themselves. Manzanita is the bitter end to the cycle of more insular life as art students and the sweet beginning of uniting and beginning the new journey of growth as professional artists in the world.
