Lou Stovall: The Museum Workshop, running from July 23 to October 9, presents some 80 works that celebrate the pioneering printmaker and the community of artists that formed around the historic D.C. institution, The Dupont Center, which Stovall established in 1969 with curator Walter Hopps.
In addition to artworks by Stovall, the show includes art produced by artists working at the center such as Sam Gilliam, Lloyd McNeill, Gene Davis, Morris Louis, and others—and is guest-curated by Will Stovall, Lou Stovall’s son.
The exhibit contextualizes the era in which the artists worked, a time of political upheaval, mass protest, and vibrant creativity, aligning The Dupont Center and Stovall with a historic time for artistic movement in D.C.
