5TH ANNUAL OPEN STUDIO TOUR: AUGUST 11, 2018, 1:00 TO 9:00 PM
1250 LONG BEACH AVENUE, LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA 90021
LONG BEACH AVENUE LOFT/STUDIOS is pleased to announce its 5TH ANNUAL OPEN STUDIOS TOUR, this year in collaboration with MAIDEN LA. Maiden LA is an inclusive and expansive county-wide survey of art happenings [during the month of August] that in encouraging the use of alternative spaces, considers the city as a platform for generative discourse and exchange… Both a playful anagram and homophone of the Hammer Museum’s ‘Made in LA’ (a biennial featuring emerging or underrepresented LA artists), Maiden LA’s focus is not exclusive to the Hammer’s curatorial efforts, but a way to consider and broaden how a city’s artistic landscape is defined. http://www.maiden.la/
The 5TH ANNUAL LONG BEACH AVENUE LOFTS OPEN STUDIOS TOUR occurs August 11, 2018 from 1:00 to 9:00 pm at 1250 LONG BEACH AVENUE, LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, 90021 – slightly south and adjacent to the vibrant DTLA Arts District. The three-story turn-of-the-century industrial brick building was one of the first artist live/work spaces in DTLA specifically repurposed for multiple large artist loft working studios. 15 plus artists and designers will be opening their spaces to the public for the afternoon and evening. The diverse backgrounds of the artists, from native Angelinos to UK transplants, provides a broad scope of work being produced in the building that includes painting, sculpture, installation, textile, ceramics, photography, prints, lighting design and lifestyle, comprehensively spanning classically trained academic studies to conceptually innovative performance and installations. The artists live and work in unique spaces, each reflecting divergent aesthetics, multiple disciplines and inventive approaches to relevant art making and the exhibition/presentation of their work.
Individual artists will be hosting a wide range of refreshments in their spaces throughout the day and evening, there is plenty of parking on Long Beach Ave and 14th Street and perhaps even a DJ on a rooftop terrace! The LBA LOFT/STUDIOS are a convenient 10-minute walk north from the LA Metro Blue Line Washington Station. The entrance to the LONG BEACH AVENUE LOFTS is on Long Beach Avenue, slightly north of 14th Street, where there will be clear signage for entry and a reception area upon entering the property with maps and information for visiting the studios. There is a large freight elevator, in addition to stairs, allowing access to each of the three floors for everyone. The afternoon and evening promises to be engaging, expansive, enlightening and well worth a visit to DTLA.
