Nomadic gallerist and dealer Ulysses de Santi will be presenting “Lightness & Tension” at Christie’s Los Angeles on September 5. The exhibition brings together works by master of Brazilian modern design Joaquim Tenreiro with the first furniture collection by contemporary Brazilian artist Lucas Simões.
By placing these works in dialogue, the exhibition explores Brazilian design as a living conversation between past and present. Tenreiro’s elegant, modernist structures highlight the organic beauty of Brazilian woods and remain deeply influential today. In contrast, Simões brings a contemporary Brutalist sensibility, using raw materials like metal, concrete, and paper. As both artist and architect, he challenges traditional ideas of form in his debut furniture collection.
