In Winter 2024, Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, LLP – the world’s leading business litigation firm –announced the recipients of their fall Los Angeles artist-in-residence program, established to create opportunity for and bring visibility to emerging and mid-career artists in the greater Los Angeles area: Levi Atkinson and Zoe Walsh. The exhibition showcases the artists’ work that was created while working for four months in “studios” that were converted attorney offices of Quinn Emanuel Trial Lawyers located in downtown Los Angeles.

The exhibition will be open by appointment and Wednesday – Friday from 12-5 pm

We’re in The New York Times – Cultivating Art, Not Argument, at a Los Angeles Law Office

About the Artists:

Levi Atkinson is a multimedia artist living in Los Angeles. He is a graduate from Carleton College double majoring in Studio Art and Art History with a focus in printmaking. His practice explores memory, manipulation, and human relationships with the idea of place. Growing up on the lush island of Guam, the natural world has always been a focal influence in his work. Levi is interested in continuing his exploration of woodcut relief printmaking with the incorporation of painting & drawing. He incorporates an experimental approach to the process through selective hand printing, collaging, and varying printing surfaces (carved wood, found materials, textured plexiglass, etc). He explores how people control and manipulate space, tracing their evolutions over time. In his work he often juxtaposes architecture and human constructed forms, such as a fence or series of power lines with an abstracted landscape. Levi wishes to further explore the notion that humans are a natural part of ecosystems, yet often deeply dissociated from them or their history due to years of industrialization.

Zoe Walsh (b. 1989, Washington D.C.) mines queer archival material to create shimmering, layered paintings that vibrate between formal abstraction and figurative landscape. Walsh earned their BA from Occidental College, Los Angeles, CA; and their MFA from Yale School of Art, New Haven, CT. They have held solo exhibitions at M+B Gallery, Los Angeles, CA, the Fondation des États-Unis, Paris, France, and Pieter Performance Space, Los Angeles, CA. Walsh’s work has been exhibited nationally and internationally in group shows at USC Fisher Museum of Art, Los Angeles, CA; Atkinson Gallery, Santa Barbara, CA; Peppers Art Gallery, Redlands, CA; Usdan Gallery, Bennington, VT; La Maison des Arts, Malakoff, France; Alfred University Fosdick-Nelson Gallery, Alfred, NY, and Chan Gallery, Pomona, CA, among others. Walsh was nominated for the prestigious Emerging Artist Grant from Rema Hort Mann Foundation, they were awarded the Al Held Foundation Affiliated Fellow at the American Academy in Rome, and they were awarded a Harriet Hale Woolley Fellowship at the Fondation des États-Unis in Paris. Recently, Walsh was awarded a residency at Fountainhead in Miami, which took place in February of 2024. Their paintings have been written about in Artillery Magazine, Art Matters, What’s on Los Angeles, Cultured Magazine, Vice, LA Weekly, The Occidental Weekly, and Lum Art Zine. Zoe Walsh lives and works in Los Angeles.
