Kaamos is a Finnish word describing the dark period occurring every winter in the polar regions. In the northernmost part of Finland, kaamos lasts 51 days. Some experience this season as a
mystical time of creativity. While the darkness may last up to 24 hours, kaamos is by no means a “black” period. In fact, it can be quite colorful. Also, every day around 2pm there is a “blue moment” when everything turns blue for about 15 minutes.
