Opening Thursday, April 9, at David Zwirner’s Melrose Hill gallery, Duets presents paintings and works on paper by Josef Albers in the artist’s first significant solo exhibition in Los Angeles in nearly forty years.
Centered on a selection of paired compositions wherein two related forms are played against one another, this presentation explores Albers’s prevailing fascination with the concept of dualities. Works from the 1930s through the 1970s furthermore demonstrate the artist’s use of simple geometric forms as fields for chromatic interaction and optical play.
Join us for the opening reception from 5 to 7 PM.
