Bringing a feminine touch to the Cool School’s clean aesthetic of finish and craftsmanship, LA-based abstract painter Jennifer Faist describes her work as “Pattern and Decoration meets Finish Fetish.” The work embraces sentiment and memory, drawing patterns from the textile designs tied to her recollections of friends, family, and acquaintances. Faist chooses colors and forms that have personal significance, with each painting serving as a memento of an event, place, or relationship. The trompe l’oeil patterns buried beneath the smooth, reflective surfaces of the paintings spark contemplation on personal histories and the remnants of the past.
