Opening Reception: Saturday, July 13th, 6-8 PM
Luis De Jesus Los Angeles is pleased to announce “I’ve got a good mind to give up living and go shopping instead,” a group exhibition featuring works by Edie Beaucage, Bianca Beck, Kate Bonner, Liz Collins, Caitlin Cherry, Zackary Drucker, Dennis Koch, Margie Livingston, Josh Reames, Alexandria Smith, and Peter Williams. The exhibition will be on view from July 13 through August 24, 2019. An artist’s reception will be held on Saturday, July 13th, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.
“I’ve got a good mind to give up living and go shopping instead” takes its name from the B.B. King song (1968). The song deals with the despair that comes from a broken relationship— that moment of surprise and shock, and of contemplating one’s next move— whether to go on living, check out, or go shopping. In the context of this group exhibition the theme explores the idea of relationships that aren’t necessarily what they appear to be. Where does the line between truth and reality lie? Is it something can be read one way and understood in a completely different manner. Or, like identity, something fluid which can seemingly embody opposing or contradictory positions yet inspire a level of empathy that allows one the ability to transform a situation into something they can relate to and be moved by.
