Kat Jarvis: It Feels Right To Me
MFA Thesis Exhibition
Master of Fine Arts candidate Kat Jarvis is presenting her thesis exhibition: ‘It Feels Right To Me’ in the Bolsky Gallery at Otis College of Art and Design. The exhibition opens March 13, and closes on March 17, 2023.
“It feels right to me” is a statement that acknowledges our own intuition and true understanding of self. Audre Lorde coined this phrase in her essay, Uses of the Erotic, where she explains the deeper and spiritual aspects of women’s erotic power, and how society has taught us to suppress and misinterpret this knowledge. In this body of work, Kat Jarvis explores intimacy through paint by using family photos as source material and depicting her own body as a declaration of self love and care. It Feels Right To Me seeks to open space for transparency by recognizing our internal power to expand our capacity for pleasure and joy.
A closing reception will be held on Thursday, March 16, from 6:00 to 9:00 PM.

About the Artist:
Kat Jarvis (b. 1992 in Athens, GA) is an oil painter creating a symbolic nostalgia deeply tied to her experience as a Black woman, and is rooted in her family’s history. Her practice explores materials, from painting on wood and canvas to using found objects and fabric, which add tangible details and texture to the work. Kat utilizes warm earth tones that represent the rich Southern landscape of unpaved red dirt roads connecting her family’s community. She currently lives and works in Los Angeles.
