MashUp Contemporary Dance Company’s annual International Women’s Day Dance Festival amplifies and celebrates women’s voices in dance while envisioning a more equitable future in the arts and beyond. Purposefully aligned with the global International Women’s Day campaign theme, the festival provides a rare opportunity for 20-30 women-identifying dance professionals a chance to present and discuss their work; facilitates thoughtful, timely dialogue on gender issues; connects early career artists with women artistic leaders; connects communities through dance; and inspires broad action towards greater gender equality.
Started in 2017 as a one day celebration featuring work from 8 female-identifying choreographers, the Festival has grown to host 4 days of performances, workshops, discussions, dance film screenings, and more featuring work from 20+ women choreographers performed by over 100 female-identifying dance artists. The Women Choreographers’ Showcase is an anchor event of the Festival. The 2023 Performances will feature contemporary dance works from 12 women-identifying choreographers from around LA and the United States.
