Galerie XII Los Angeles is pleased to host the West Coast debut exhibition of Norwegian artist Anja Niemi. The exhibition In Character will present both Niemi’s most recent body of work, She Could Have Been A Cowboy, and a unique installation of significant works from her previous acclaimed series, along with ephemera and props used in her photographs. An opening reception with the artist will be held from 5-7pm on Saturday, May 4th.
Over the past decade, Niemi’s self-portrait narratives have garnered wide international acclaim since including a recent solo museum exhibition at Fotografiska Stockholm and the publication of her first retrospective monograph, In Character, by Thames & Hudson. In each of her series, Niemi puts herself in the shoes of her character, always staging, acting and photographing alone.
A concurrent installation of Niemi’s work is being presented at Hollywood’s prestigious new h Club Los Angeles, a members-only creative club which seeks to expose unique rising figures in contemporary art.
