Gateless Gate II: Ritual of Returning
a poco art collective, Culver City
Opening: Sunday, December 14, 3–6pm
The second chapter of Ann Shi’s Gateless Gate trilogy transforms her Culver City studio into an intimate “womb-space,” a site where boundaries between object, body, and atmosphere loosen. Featuring Sandeep Mukherjee, Relational (Dana Berman Duff & Shirley Tse), Stella Zhang, Nancy Evans, Flora Kao, and Constance Braden, the exhibition stages a porous ecology of painting, cyanotype, textile, sculpture, and tide-based sound.
If Ritual of Holding in Houston asked what a gate is, Ritual of Returning asks what it means to cross one without leaving. Visitors enter shoeless, settling into mats and low cushions as works breathe together in a soft field of interdependence. Mukherjee’s vibrating surfaces, Relational’s lunar window and tidal composition, Zhang’s taut textiles, Evans’s cosmic diagrams, Kao’s light-stained cyanotypes, and Braden’s chakra drawings converge into a quiet, feminist cosmology of return.
On view through January 25, 2026.
